Abortion Gift Certificates for Christmas?

Planned Parenhood Gift Certificate A shocking marketing technique by Planned Parenthood of Indiana has many pro-lifers outraged as they are offering Gift Certificates that can be used for any "health services" at their centers. Part of the "Choice on Earth" fundraising push used nationally by PP, the gift certificates also have been used in Illinois in past years. Obviously, PP's view of "health services" includes abortion, as their own data indicates that 96% of the services provided to pregnant women are abortions.

Christmas controversy is not new to Planned Parenthood. In the mid-1990s it began offering "Choice on Earth" holiday cards. Many pro-life organizations were offended by the mockery of the "peace on earth" message found in the New Testament book of Luke describing the birth of the Christ child and the cards have not been used for two years.

More shocking information on Planned Parenthood, including use of YOUR tax dollars, will be revealed in the upcoming RNC for Life Report. Click here to subscribe.

Recent Senate Victories Prove Importance of GOP Minority

fillibuster! Recently, the pro-life/pro-family movement scored two important victories when Senate Republicans using the filibuster privilege kept dangerous legislation from coming to the floor for a full Senate vote.

First, the GOP sustained a Republican objection (filibuster) to keep the Defense Authorization Act from coming up for a full Senate vote. This act contained two controversial and destructive provisions, one to allow abortions on all U.S. military installations throughout the world and the second to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy concerning gays in the military. (Unfortunately, when the DADT issue subsequently was presented as a stand-alone measure, it passed both the House and the Senate, as Republican Senators failed to keep it from coming to the floor, where the Democrats easily had the votes to pass it last week.)

Secondly, when Sen. Harry Reid brought up a huge omnibus spending bill to try and ram through the lame duck Senate, the Republicans again stood together and defeated attempts to bring it to the floor where it would have passed easily with the Democrat majority. The multi-billion dollar debt-increasing bill included $327 million for the Title X Family Planning Program which provides funding to groups like Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the nation. Another $710 million would have been appropriated for international family planning/reproductive health which provides funding to organizations that promote and perform abortion overseas.

The congress is expected to fund government operations through a Continuing Resolution, which will allow the government to continue operations until March 4, 2011 while the incoming 112th Congress considers legislation to fund the government for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2011 (FY11). However, this will allow public funding for abortion to continue in the District of Columbia until March 4, 2011; it will also allow the incoming Congress to determine funding limitations for the remainder of FY11.

Congratulations and thanks to all of you who urged our Republican senators to stand firm on both objections which kept the legislation from coming to the floor, where the Democrats had the votes to pass any bill with a simple majority. These are great examples of how the Republicans' 40+ minority status can keep dangerous legislation at bay until the newly elected conservatives take control of the House and improve their numbers in the Senate in January.

There will be significant pro-life legislation introduced in the next Congress and we will keep you informed as it makes its way through the legislative process.

Texas Speaker's Race Building To Climactic January Finish

Pro-lifers and other conservatives across Texas are weighing in by droves in the upcoming race for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. Winning 22 seats in the November elections, Texas Republicans raised their majority to 99-51, the largest in the state's history for the GOP. With a solid majority, Republican House members are being urged by their constituents to choose a speaker who reflects their values, particularly in the pro-life arena. In a special RNC for Life Alert last month, we detailed how the current Speaker, who describes himself as "pro-life," is a far cry from deserving that label. Click here to read that alert.

Virtually every pro-life organization in the state has spoken out against the current Speaker, and conservatives are holding rallies at dozens of House members' offices to urge them to caucus and choose a conservative, pro-life speaker. (There are two conservative candidates announced.) Many pro-life leaders feel that due to the Speaker's choice of committee chairs in the last session, no important life bills were passed and want to improve that record in the upcoming session.

For our Texas readers: Please let your state representative know that you want him/her to attend the GOP caucus when called, and that you expect him/her to support a conservative for the third most powerful office in the state.

We at RNC for Life wish you and yours a most blessed and Merry Christmas. If you are receiving this E-Notes for the first time and would like to receive it FREE on a regular basis, please click here.
