Planned Parenthood: Show Us the Money!!!
Planned Parenthood cannot account for millions of taxpayer dollars, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report which detailed federal funding for pro-abortion organizations, including Planned Parenthood. Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) held a news conference last week announcing the results of the report, which shows that while PP took in $2.3 billion in government grants and programs between 2002 and 2008, its audit shows that PP spent just $257.1 million during that same time period. Where are the rest of the funds?
And though its fiscal year will be completed in just days, PP still has not released its annual report for 2009-2010. The GAO report is the result of a request dating back to April 2009, which was signed by 31 pro-life Republican U.S. Senators and Representatives, including Cong. Olson's fellow Texans Sen. John Cornyn and Congressmen Joe Barton, Kenny Marchant, Ron Paul and Lamar Smith. Other pro-life Republicans signing on included Sens. Sam Brownback (KS), Jim DeMint (SC), Jim Inhofe (OK), and David Vitter (LA). Minority Leader John Boehner (OH) was on board and joined by other pro-life Members of Congress: Paul Ryan (WI), Mike Pence (IN), Todd Akin (MO), Michele Bachmann (MN), Roscoe Bartlett (MD), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Paul Broun (GA), Vern Buchanan (FL), John Fleming and Steve Scalise (LA), Trent Franks (AZ), Scott Garrett and Chris Smith (NJ), Phil Gingrey (GA), Duncan Hunter Jr. (CA), Walter B. Jones (NC), Jim Jordan (OH), Steve King (IA), and Doug Lamborn (CO). These pro-life legislators are to be congratulated on their action to "follow the money" — taxpayers' money at that! Encourage them to keep up the pressure on PP for a full accounting before Congress allocates another dime of our money to this pro-abortion powerhouse.
The new Miss Oklahoma is not only a lovely, talented young lady, but also a strong pro-life advocate. Emoly West was first introduced to Eagle Forum by her grandmother, Mollie Harris, who helped STOP ERA in Oklahoma. But exposure to the pro-life cause began even earlier as her mother, Stephanie, brought Emoly in a stroller to the state capitol and lobbied for pro-life legislation.
Now 24, Emoly has been a Teen Eagle and attended the EF Collegians Summit a few years ago. She has won many beauty pageants and now will be representing Oklahoma in the Miss America pageant in January with her platform of "Leadership and Character Development." With her strong conservative background, we know what kind of character she has and will champion. Good luck in January, Emoly!
Pro-life grassroots voters have scored an upset victory in Texas. Thanks to an amazing grassroots campaign, Lieutenant Colonel (ret.) Brian Birdwell won the special election runoff for State Senate District 22 last week, capturing 58% of the vote. He will fill the unexpired term of a retiring state senator who resigned from office on March 17, 2010, after the Texas primary races had already been held.
Running against a "moderate" former State Senator from the area who had been a legislative lobbyist for the past few years, Col. Birdwell energized grassroots conservatives and won eight of the ten counties in the district and earned the endorsement of many pro-life organizations, including RNC for Life, for his unconditional support of our principles.
Col. Birdwell, a Gulf War veteran who served in Desert Storm, was badly burned on September 11, 2001, during the terrorist attack on the Pentagon. In his second-floor office at the Pentagon on 9/11 when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed nearby, he was engulfed in flames causing severe burns over 60% of his body. He has undergone multiple surgeries and skin grafts, and his story of physical and spiritual healing has inspired people across the nation. Col. Birdwell and his wife have since launched a non-profit organization, Face the Fire Ministries, which supports critical burn victims as well as wounded servicemen and women. War hero Birdwell is a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Legion of Merit Award recipient.
To help elect more pro-life candidates, particularly in Congressional races, we need to raise additional funds for our PAC. Every donation, large or small, will help promote a culture of life in our Congress. If you want to help elect Republicans who truly support the GOP's strong pro-life platform and are committed to voting that way, please consider donating.
