Communication Making It Easier For You to Contact Your Congressman and Senators

RNC for Life is testing a new component of our E-Notes to assist our readers in contacting their U.S. Senators and Representatives. When there is a pro-life bill that YOUR Senator or Congressman should support, we will provide you with a link to send an email directly to your Senator or Representative. And you can forward the alert to friends who may also wish to easily contact their congressional delegation. So watch for the words ACTION and CLICK HERE in our articles about upcoming federal legislation, such as in Congress Can Defund Planned Parenthood below. Let us know how you like it!

Tax-Paid Abortions In Washington D.C.

money The pro-aborts have so many ways in which they use our tax dollars to pay for abortions, it boggles the mind! Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) is re-introducing the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act" which will codify all the various restrictions on tax dollars paying for abortions into one law, rather than a series of restrictions which must be renewed annually. All Republicans should support this bill, and to co-sponsor, they need to contact Rep. Smith by Wednesday, January 19.

Congress bears constitutional responsibility for the use of funds raised through District of Columbia local taxes, as well as federal funds allocated for D.C. In Fiscal Years 1996 - 2009, all funds that Congress approved for D.C. (both "local" and "federal") were prohibited from being used for elective abortion, thanks to the Dornan Amendment. However, the Democrat Congress rolled back this policy for FY 2010, approving language only to prohibit the use of "federal" funds for elective abortion by inserting the word "federal" into the Dornan Amendment. This change effectively guts the entire policy, because D.C. may now use taxpayer funds to pay for abortion as long as a bookkeeping mechanism is implemented to technically charge abortions to those funds that were "locally" generated (appropriated by Congress for the District.) This is a marked departure from the policy included from FY96-09 during which time NO congressionally appropriated funds were permitted to be used to pay for elective abortion in D.C.

Cong. Chris Smith (R-NJ) is inviting his Congressional colleagues to sign on to a letter going to the House Appropriations Committee asking that the policy revert to the one set forth in the Dornan Amendment. Deadline to sign is January 28.

ACTION: CLICK HERE to urge your congressional representative both to sign the letter to the Appropriations Committee regarding D.C. abortion funding, and to co-sponsor the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act."

Congress Can Defund Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood Pro-life advocates shudder in disgust as the amount of tax dollars going to the nation's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, are revealed annually. In 2009, according to PP's own annual report, it received more than $363 million in revenue from government grants and contracts under Title X federal funding. During that same time frame, they performed an unprecedented 324,008 abortions, a 5.8 percent increase from the previous year. The funds may not even be spent in accordance with the law: PP is under investigation in multiple states including Indiana, California, Alabama and Tennessee for allegations of fraudulent use of Title X funding.

Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) has introduced H.R. 217 which prohibits Planned Parenthood, and other abortion providers, from receiving Title X funds for "family planning" thus eliminating taxpayer funding of PP. See Congressman Pence's statements on this bill here. Every Republican Congressional Representative should support H.R. 217 and stop this outrageous rape of the taxpayers' pocketbook!

ACTION: CLICK HERE to urge your Congressional Representative both to co-sponsor and to support H.R. 217 to defund Planned Parenthood's abortion activities.

Obama Won't Discuss China's One-Child Policy While Dining With Its President

China Pro-lifers are outraged that while China's president dines with President Obama this week, the agenda does NOT INCLUDE the topic of human rights, in particular the millions of deaths and abuses resulting from China's One-Child Policy. President Hu Jintao will be in Washington from January 18-21, coinciding with the 38th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's infamous Roe v Wade decision, according to Christian News Wire. There are many documented cases of pregnant mothers being kidnapped, imprisoned and beaten, then forced to abort, as late-term as up to nine months. Given the Chinese culture's preference for boy babies, millions of Chinese girls were aborted after years of infanticide under this barbaric policy. Our President should be condemning this practice when he hosts the Chinese President. (Read more about pro-life issues worldwide in the upcoming RNC for Life Report. New RNC Chairman Is Pro-Life

Reince Priebus The votes are in and on the seventh ballot, Reince Priebus (pronounced Ryns Pree'-bus) was elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee last week. Chairman Priebus pledges to advance the right to Life in his new position of leadership. His election as a pro-life advocate has strong implications for the upcoming Presidential election, as the GOP candidate will face the most pro-abortion President in America's history. About 25% of voters in the Nov. 2010 election declared that abortion was an important issue to them, a fact that Republican candidates for the GOP Presidential nomination should note.
