Will You Help the Pro-Life Movement?

 January 2012

Dear Pro-Life Friends,

It was a banner year for the pro-life movement throughout America —

EXCEPT IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Last year, nearly 200 measures were enacted which advanced the pro-life cause —

EXCEPT IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Millions of tax dollars were diverted from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider —

EXCEPT IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

In 2011, 25% more laws reflecting the sanctity of life were enacted (more than three times those passed in 2010) —

EXCEPT IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH WASHINGTON, D.C.?

In a word, the United States SENATE.

You see, the Republican-controlled U.S. House has passed seven strong pro-life measures:

  • Repeal of ObamaCare
  • Cutting Off Federal Funds to Planned Parenthood (two versions)
  • Blocking Funding of ObamaCare
  • No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion
  • Restricting Federal Funds for Training Abortionists and Protecting Pro-Life Conscience Rights of Medical Professionals
  • Preventing Federal Funding for Insurance Plans (including ObamaCare) from Paying for Elective Abortions

How many of these pro-life measures passed the Senate?

NOT A SINGLE ONE!

That’s right — the pro-abortion, Democrat-controlled Senate refused even to take up most of these bills and soundly defeated the ones that did make it to a vote.

Consequently, given the current make-up of the U.S. Senate, it is impossible to pass a single pro-life measure.

HOW DO WE FIX THAT?

While most of the media and general public attention is focused on the race for the White House — and that certainly is a very critical election for our country — other crucial elections also will be taking place in November.

On November 6, thirty-three U.S. Senators are up for election — one-third of the entire Senate. And two-thirds of those up for election (23) are Democrats, with at least seven choosing to retire rather than face re-election. That means there are seven open seats, giving Republicans a much better chance to win. These states (CT, HI, ND, NE, NM, VA and WI), coupled with ones where an incumbent pro-abortion Democrat Senator is vulnerable, give us an excellent opportunity to pick up enough pro-life Republican Senators to take control of the Senate in 2012.

Also in November, every United States Congressional Representative is up for election. We had such a great success last cycle in putting in 80 pro-life freshmen Representatives that many of them have now been targeted by the pro-aborts. We must defend these freshmen, as they are considered most vulnerable when they have served only one term. Additionally, there are several open seats that we need to capture with pro-life candidates.

HOW DO WE ELECT PRO-LIFERS TO THOSE SEATS?

RNC/Life PAC evaluates Republican candidates based on answers to our questionnaire and their previous service to the pro-life cause. (Incumbents are rated based on their voting record in Congress.) Then we can assist the pro-life candidates in three ways:

  1. We can endorse these candidates;
  2. We can help fund their campaigns, and/or
  3. We can spread the word to pro-lifers as to which candidates are truly pro-life.

But to do that effectively, we must raise several hundred thousand dollars — to mount this fight to make the Senate a pro-life body and protect our pro-life majority in the House. We virtually emptied our PAC coffers in the last election cycle by assisting in the election of about four dozen pro-life federal legislators.

This cycle, we must begin vetting and supporting strong pro-life candidates IMMEDIATELY to be sure that the Primary Elections (which in many states determine the ultimate winner) produce strong candidates who respect the sanctity of life.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW!

Please make your most generous donation to the RNC/Life PAC here. You can donate up to $5,000 per person per year to our PAC. (This is in addition to any direct candidate donations that you may make.) But every donation, no matter how large or small, will help us as we take to Washington the same pro-life fervor that has swept throughout our country, state by state.

We are ready to begin our vetting and endorsement process — can we count on YOUR DONATION to make it happen? Thank you in advance for your help.

Faithfully,

Phyllis Schlafly              Dianne Edmondson

P.S.      The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has just announced that it has surpassed its 2012 candidate goal, recruiting 75 candidates for open and GOP-held seats. That is exactly the number the Democrats need to take back control of the House! And they are recruiting even more pro-aborts to challenge our pro-life Republicans.  If we lose the U.S. House, we lose the opportunity to pass any kind of pro-life, pro-family legislation for the foreseeable future. Please send your most generous donation to our PAC today!
