The Texas legislature effectively defunded Planned Parenthood and its affiliates in our state during the last legislative session, but that praise-worthy action soon may be subverted by the Obama Administration.
The Administration’s slavish devotion to Planned Parenthood has become increasingly obvious as the President does everything in his power to continue the cash cow flow of tax money to the world’s largest abortion provider. Now Texas is in the Administration’s sights, using low-income women as unwilling pawns in its desire to keep Texas Medicaid monies flowing into Planned Parenthood’s bloody coffers by threatening to completely defund the low-income women’s preventative health service in Texas unless Planned Parenthood and its affiliates are once again put on the list to receive Medicaid dollars. (Read the December 12, 2011, letter from the CMS HERE.)
Their interest obviously is not the low-income women who benefit from these Medicaid-funded services, since there are only about two dozen PP facilities compared with literally hundreds of non-Planned Parenthood providers as shown in the map in this Texas Tribune article. Now the Tribune is anything but a conservative publication, but its own map clearly shows that the providers who are funded in the Texas plan (the red dot locations) are many times more than the PP providers (yellow flags). In fact, according to Carol Everett of the pro-life Heidi Group, there are more than 1,000 other WHP providers who would be funded under the Texas law, compared to the few dozen PP providers who have been defunded.
Texas and Gov. Perry are being bullied by the Obama Administration as they try to get funding back for their favorite baby-killers, Planned Parenthood. There are hundreds of emails and phone calls being generated to the Governor by the pro-aborts urging him to cave in to the Administration’s demand to once again give YOUR tax dollars to Planned Parenthood in Texas. The Governor is a strong defender of the law, so let’s encourage him and outnumber those who are trying to force Texas to again fund PP. Here is what you can do to help:
Click here to send a message to Governor Perry expressing your support of the exclusion of Planned Parenthood from the Women’s Health Program. (Select “I am registering my opinion.”) Sample Message:
Dear Governor Perry,
Thank you for insisting that Texas law (Senate Bill 7, passed last summer) be followed so that abortion providers like Planned Parenthood and their affiliates do not receive Women’s Health Program funds. Please stand firm and make sure my tax dollars do not go to support the abortion industry. Thank you.
Thank your State House and Senate members who supported Senate Bill 7 (list below). SB 7 requires the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to exclude Planned Parenthood from the WHP. A link for their contact information is provided below. If they are on Facebook, you can thank them there as well.
