Thursday, in a shocking decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, Chief Justice Roberts sided with the four leftists on the court and held that while ObamaCare would be unconstitutional under the Constitution’s commerce clause, it is indeed a tax and therefore constitutional under the internal revenue code since the Constitution gives Congress the power to levy taxes.
However, apparently the states do NOT have to comply with the forced increase in Medicaid coverage for some 17 million more people. Under the court’s ruling, the states that choose NOT to increase their Medicaid coverage will NOT be penalized by withholding existing federal funds — they just will not receive any additional federal funds unless they expand the Medicaid coverage to millions of more people who are at up to 133% of the federal poverty level. This political setback means that the pro-abortion portions of the bill also will remain, requiring pro-lifers to redouble their efforts both in the individual states and in D.C. to repeal this disastrous law. However, it also should mobilize conservatives to remove Obama — the most pro-abortion, pro-socialism and anti-American president in our country’s history — and work diligently to elect a Republican President whose Supreme Court appointments will move the court from its 5-4 and sometime 4-5 (as the ObamaCare decision) decisions to ones that are weighted in favor of constitutionalist rulings. There likely will be at least three Supreme Court appointments in the next four years and that alone should inspire conservatives to do whatever it takes in campaign efforts to take back our country! If Roe v. Wade is ever to be overturned, Obama cannot be the president making the next few appointments to the Supreme Court.

While many are intent on destroying the lives of 17-week gestation babies, a Miami, Florida toddler is alive and well today thanks to two pioneering doctors who performed in utero surgery on her about two years ago. Little Lyna had developed a huge tumor — tennis ball sized! — on her mouth and doctors knew that the growing mass would make it virtually impossible for her to survive the birth process. On the 50th anniversary of the decision to kick prayer out of public schools, President Obama decided to show parents what it’s been replaced with. During a speech at New Hampshire’s Oyster River High School, the leader of the free world stunned everyone by using his speech as a lesson in sex education. To a packed auditorium, the President told teenagers that they have the “final say” in “every single challenge that we face.” Then, in an almost Dan Savage-like ambush, the President launched into an advertisement for contraception, homosexuality, and abortion giant Planned Parenthood. “You can decide that instead of restricting access to birth control or defunding Planned Parenthood, we should make sure that in this country, women control their own health care choices. That’s up to you… You can decide whether or not we go back to the days when you could be kicked out of the United States military just because of who you are and who you love.”
According to a National Public Radio blogger, military insurance now will cover abortions for service women in some circumstances. This provision was buried in the huge annual Department of Defense bill, and was included in an amendment inserted by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, (D-NH).
Three Republican senators — John McCain of Arizona, Scott Brown from Massachusetts and Susan Collins of Maine — voted for the amendment. Its inclusion in the bill now means that it would take 60 votes to remove it, something that is probably politically impossible. While the House has not yet approved this legislation, it may be tricky to disrupt the passage of the Defense bill. More details are here.
The initiative would have required a “compelling interest” test before the government could infringe on religious liberty. Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide donated $950,000 to oppose it, joining with the Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, the ACLU, NARAL and Emily’s List to help fund North Dakotans Against Measure 3, which raised over $1 million compared to only $150,000 raised by a coalition of family groups. As we prepare for fireworks, hot dogs and apple pie, please remember what July 4th is really about: a nation conceived with the unique idea that “. . . all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed . . .”
