Butcher Abortionist Doesn’t Take Stand at Trial

Next week, the jury will meet in Philadelphia to decide the guilt or innocence of one of America’s most brutal mass murderers – Dr. Kermit Gosnell. In a bizarre defense, Gosnell’s lawyer is arguing that there is no proof that the babies with whose murder Gosnell is charged were even alive after the abortion. This despite the testimony of several witnesses who worked for Gosnell and saw the babies move or heard them “screech” when the doctor severed their spinal cords with his scissors. More details here.

scissorsIn a puzzling decision, the judge has dismissed nine charges against the abortionist: three counts of murder of babies, one charge of infanticide and five charges of corpse abuse (relating to the doctor’s habit of storing dozens of babies’ severed feet in jars throughout the facility.) The remaining charges are related to the deaths of four newborns and one patient, Karnamaya Mongar, who died from a drug overdose administered during a second trimester abortion by Gosnell. Read more here.

The defense has rested its case without bringing the butcher to the stand, though several of his former employees have testified against Gosnell. The prosecution will wrap up its case on Monday and then the jury will decide — quickly we hope! — the fate of this abortionist.

Kristen PowersMedia Blackout is Easing Somewhat — Thanks, Kirsten!

Thanks to many efforts — tweet-athon, phone calls to local stations, USA Today column by Fox News contributor Kirsten Powers, members of Congress speaking publicly, etc. — the media blackout of the Gosnell “House of Horrors” abortuary is finally lifting a bit and the trial is getting a small amount of media coverage. Not nearly as much as it deserves, but some. So thanks to those of you who helped push journalists into actually doing their jobs.

But More MSM Coverage Needed

Brent BozellFew big papers covered any part of the trial though some allowed opinion pieces. The Los Angeles Times ran this editorial opinion, but little to no news coverage – and the news coverage is where it counts. Dr. Kermit Gosnell abortion case: Why no national media spotlight?  And the New York Times allowed this op-ed. The Tweet-A-Thon forced the Times to publish this story, and to finally admit the media shortcomings.

Still, Brent Bozell of Media Research Center opines: “Although the bombing of the Boston Marathon rightfully commanded much of the media’s attention last week, the Big Three broadcast networks still found time for a host of superficial and inconsequential “news” stories while continuing to censor the horrific details of abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s murder trial in Philadelphia.

“Have the American people not made it clear that the Gosnell trial is a major, national story? With the exception of CBS This Morning’s reporting last Monday, networks are still putting their personal pro-abortion politics ahead of the national interest and censoring this story. So what did the media find so enthralling last week?

  • ABC (which hasn’t covered Gosnell once ever) revealed the earth-shattering revelation that Breakfast at Tiffany’s heroine Holly Golightly’s original name was “Connie Gustafson”
  • Diane Sawyer spent 32 seconds on Superman’s 75th birthday
  • NBC’s Today reported why the Internet loves cats
  • Brian Williams took time to report that octogenarian actor Dick Van Dyke gets headaches when he lies down
  • CBS This Morning found time to show footage of Toronto’s mayor bumping into a TV camera, but didn’t bother to update their Gosnell reporting

Their silence is deafening. The horror in Boston is worthy of extensive, in-depth coverage, but so is the maiming, mutilation and murder allegedly committed by Gosnell. The broadcast networks are censoring it because they want to protect abortion at all costs. Gosnell might as well have put his alleged victims in ovens. They just don’t care.”

GOP Congressional Pro-lifers Urge Media Attention

Cong. Marsha Blackburn72 members of Congress have signed onto a letter by Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) and Congressman Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) demanding that the media pay more attention to the Gosnell trial, coverage of which has been largely absent. Cong. Blackburn said, “The broadcasters’ blackout of the Planned Parenthood infanticide lobbying scandal and the Gosnell ‘House of Horrors’ murder trial are the biggest and most politically-motivated media cover-ups in our nation’s history. Censorship and media bias allows the corrupt abortion industry to profit at the expense of innocent women and children. The mainstream media has a responsibility to report the truth, not turn a blind eye to the biggest civil rights issue of our time.”

Next week should give us the justice that these babies deserve. We will keep you posted in our next E-Notes.
