Kansas, Alabama Courts Rule for Life
Kansas law protects conscience rights regarding abortion and bars private health insurance carriers from paying for abortions (except to save the life of the mother) in their standard issue policies. However, women wanting abortion coverage may purchase individual policies or riders. The ACLU filed suit on behalf of several women who lost coverage they previously had prior to a 2011 Kansas law that protected employers’ and employees’ conscience objections. The ACLU tried to claim that the legislature’s primary purpose was to impede access to abortion. Filing for a summary judgment last summer, the ACLU asked the court for a bench ruling on that argument without going to trial. But federal court judge Julie A. Robinson denied that motion recently. We have just learned that The Associated Press reported late Friday that the ACLU has withdrawn this lawsuit and cannot re-file these claims later. Full details here. A great victory for the Kansas law!
Alabama has legislation which forbids chemical endangerment of children, and has applied the law to include unborn children who were exposed in utero to illegal drugs. Two mothers were convicted under the law when their babies tested positive at birth for illegal drugs. The State Supreme Court recently upheld convictions of mothers who were charged under the chemical endangerment law when their children tested positive for illegal drugs at birth. Alabama’s Attorney General Luther Strange called the ruling an affirmation that all life, pre-natal or post-natal, should be protected by law and said the court ruled that “the plain meaning of the word ‘child’ in the chemical endangerment statute includes unborn children.”
Pro-Aborts “Party Like It’s 1973”
While pro-lifers march for the sanctity of Life, the pro-aborts cavorted in Houston, TX last Saturday to celebrate their “landmark victory.” This celebration is sponsored by the Lilith Fund, which is a group that promotes tax funding for abortions as it raises funds for women to obtain abortions. Their party notice read: “Bring your friends and your dancin’ shoes; it’s going to be a great night!” as it invited pro-aborts to dance on the virtual graves of those unborn victims of abortion. The choice of a name for this group is chilling. According to mythology, Lilith is a female demon of the night who supposedly flies around searching for newborn children either to kidnap or strangle them.
Planned Parenthood Increases Abortions,
Decreases Breast Exams
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) recently released reports which showed that while it had a record year in the number of abortions that it committed in 2011-12, it significantly decreased its breast health services. Many people have bought the falsehood that PP does free mammograms, but in fact, there are NO mammogram machines in any PP facility in the country, nor are there any physicians available for any services except abortion. While Planned Parenthood has used breast health services as a major talking point in its fund-raising, the facts show it has become a smaller share of its efforts. Read more here.
And guess where nearly half of the PP revenue comes from: YOU the taxpayer. More than $542 million for their last fiscal year! Isn’t it time to Defund Planned Parenthood from taxpayers’ funding?
“Drop Cards” Can Help Spread the Pro-life Message
A good New Year’s Resolution: Spread factual information about the horror of abortion everywhere you go, anonymously and powerfully. A pro-life group, Abolish Human Abortion, has designed a series of “drop cards” which not only depict a strong pro-life statement but are also very affordable: about $3.00 for a pack of 50 cards. Please be warned that some (but not all) of the cards depict the very graphic result of an abortion. However, you can choose whichever cards you want. Buy them and carry them with you. Drop them anywhere and everywhere – leave along with your tip at a restaurant, tuck one into the display for pregnancy tests, stick one into a magazine in a waiting room. Let your creative juices flow as you think of more places to drop your cards! Click here for more information.
