ND Heartbeat, Genetic Defect Laws Challenged
North Dakota has passed some of the country’s earliest abortion bans, making it illegal to abort a pre-born baby whose heartbeat can be detected, as early as six weeks of pregnancy. Naturally, pro-abortion lawsuits have ensued, but supporters of the fetal heartbeat measure, including pro-life Gov. Jack Dalrymple, have said it’s a challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion up until a fetus is considered viable, usually at 22 to 24 weeks.
However, earlier this week, a federal judge temporarily blocked the implementation of the bill which was set to take effect on August 1. Pro-life Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has pledged to defend the law, which pro-aborts admit would prohibit about 90% of the state’s abortions.
The state also recently passed a law which prohibits abortions based upon a pre-born baby’s genetic defect such as Down syndrome. That law is also being challenged in court by pro-aborts. Read more here: News
Can Cities Ban Late-term Abortions?
Albuquerque, NM, known as the “late term abortion capital of America,” may become the first city to do so, according to Operation Rescue, if an ongoing petition drive is successful. Project Defending Life expects to submit the required 12,000 signatures by tomorrow’s deadline, which would put the initiative on the ballot in October. If the measure passes, Albuquerque would become the first city in America to ban abortions after 20-weeks gestation. You can Watch A News Video here.
Eyes of the Nation Now on Texas “Fallout”
It’s hard to believe, but one Dallas, TX newspaper (I use the term loosely) is providing abortion-friendly travel information for its readers who will now have to travel some distance for an abortion, calling its advice the Abortion Vacation Guide. Here is a link to the story but please be warned that many of the blog comments below the article are crude and vulgar.
Pro-aborts also are whining that since killing pre-born babies is illegal in Mexico, now the Mexican women who come across the border for their abortions will have to travel further into the Lone Star state to find open abortuaries. And the Guttmacher Institute (a pro-abortion group) tries another scare tactic by saying that road trips which cross state lines for abortions could be “detrimental to women’s health.” Really? REALLY???
At Least Three Texas Abortuaries Closing
In a very welcome irony, the closing of the Bryan, TX abortuary which was once managed by now pro-life heroine Abby Johnson, announced its closing very shortly after Gov. Rick Perry signed the recently passed omnibus pro-life bill (Abby was very instrumental in helping to pass that bill, and welcomed her third child just a few weeks ago.) Additionally, two other Texas abortuaries are closing according to LifesiteNews.com. Read full details here.
Pro-Life Hispanics to Gather in North Texas
Meanwhile, a large Hispanic pro-life conference will be held August 16 -18 in Plano, TX, just north of Dallas. Several thousand are expected to attend and pro-life Hispanics from across the country are urged to join them. Get full details here.
Gosnell Victims Denied Burial
Ever since the “House of Horrors” Gosnell trial ended in May, the city of Philadelphia has kept in its possession the 3 babies that Gosnell was convicted of murdering, in addition to 42 other pre-born babies the District Attorney had found stuffed in milk jugs, paper boxes, and jars in Gosnell’s abortuary, according to Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life.
Even though Pennsylvania law requires that the bodies of unclaimed persons may be claimed by a member of the community, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health has refused to allow pro-life activists to claim these tiny bodies and give them a decent burial. Representatives from Students for Life, Priests for Life, the Christian Defense Coalition, and other leaders from Stand True and the Alliance Defending Freedom are in Philadelphia trying to claim these abortion victims according to Kristan Hawkins, Students for Life. Kristan further reports that they were denied entrance into the Medical Examiner’s Office, a public building, last Friday. “As they saw us approaching, they locked the doors on us and told us that we weren’t allowed in because we were not a grieving family,” she says. And yet, do we not all grieve for these millions of pre-born infants from our human family who will never take a breath or see the light of day?
Why would the pro-aborts be so adamant that these babies should not be buried? Kristan believes it’s because “You don’t bury a “collection of cells “or a “clump of tissue” – you bury a human being, a person. And our simple request, to give dignity to the babies Gosnell murdered, exposes the fundamental flaw in ‘pro-choice’ logic.”
Here is how YOU can help these courageous pro-lifers in their quest for a proper burial for these murdered babies:
- Please call the Philadelphia Medical Examiners’ Office (215-685-7445) and demand that they release the babies for a proper burial.
- Please consider joining many national pro-life organizations on August 25th and 26th in Philadelphia for our national “A Cry for Dignity” event. Still in the planning stages, a few details can be found here, with more updates to come.
