Abortion/Breast Cancer Link Grows Stronger The link between abortion and breast cancer is one that most abortionists don’t like to discuss in public. But now they may have to. In a recent publication of the Wisconsin Law Review, law student John Kindley demonstrates that the medical evidence of the link is strong enough now to create some sticky legal problems for those reticent abortionists. Kindley writes, “The purpose of this comment is to show that the current level of scientific evidence linking induced abortion with increased breast cancer risk is sufficient to support an ethical and legal duty to disclose fully the risk to women who are considering pregnancy termination.” For a copy of the article, write to Clarke D. Forsythe, Esq., Americans United for Life, 310 S. Peoria Street, Suite 300, Chicago, Illinois 60607-3534. (First Things, November, 1999) Those of you who serve as citizen-lobbyists in state legislatures across the country will find Mr. Kindley’s Law Review article extremely helpful in informing legislators and their staffs of the ABC Link. The risk of the onset of breast cancer later in life to girls seeking abortions should be included in informed consent and parental consent legislation and should be incorporated into all literature mandated by the state for use in providing information on abortion-related health risks to women.
Because it is illegal for taxpayers’ money to be used to kill human embryos, the new NIH guidelines would allow embryonic babies to be killed through the act of removing their stem cells, in privately funded laboratories. The stem cells taken from the embryonic baby would then be transported to federally funded facilities where researchers would perform experiments on them. In a news release issued on December 1, 1999, National Right to Life Committee had this to say regarding the new guidelines: “ For the first time, human embryos would be deliberately killed under the sponsorship of the federal government.” “This proposal would result in federal sponsorship and funding of experiments in which living human embryos are dissected and killed -- a clear violation of federal law and of ethical standards governing non-consenting human subject,” said NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson. The release went on to explain that many medical researchers utilize stem cells taken from adults or umbilical cord blood to which there is no pro-life objection or legal barrier. “We strongly encourage federal funding of research on stem cells obtained in ways that do not kill living members of the human family,” Johnson said. The embryonic babies in question are children who came into existence through in-vitro fertilization. Their parents have abandoned them and there are reportedly over 100,000 tiny children currently frozen in liquid nitrogen awaiting an uncertain fate. Many of us know people who have resorted to in-vitro fertilization in the hope of having a baby. We must do what we can to inform people that surely God does not intend for us to “manufacture” babies to use as we wish and then discard the “leftovers” to be killed in scientific experiments. Infertility is a heavy cross to bear, but how much better it would be if we would cease trying to play God and instead, accept His will in our lives. Lo and behold, we just received a copy of the preliminary invitation to the February 9th event to be held at the Capitol Hill Club from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M., noting at the bottom, “ Formal Invitation and Further Details to follow.” Printed at the top of the invitation, in bold letters the invitation says, “The Honorable J. Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the House & The Honorable Thomas M. Davis III, Chairman, National Republican Congressional Committee, Cordially Invite You To a Special Reception Honoring Former Congressman DICK ZIMMER, Republican Candidate for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District.” Well, there are two Republican candidates for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District. Our pro-life friend Mike Pappas, against whom they are using discriminatory tactics, is in the race to regain the seat he lost in 1998. It looks to us like the Speaker and NRCC chairman want to make it appear that there is only one candidate, the pro-abortion candidate, Zimmer, who is so pro-abortion he even voted against banning partial birth abortions and voted against the veto override when he served in Congress before. Have Speaker Hastert and Rep. Tom Davis heard from you about the unfair preferential treatment they are giving Dick Zimmer when they should be neutral in the primary, letting Republican Primary voters who live in the 12th District decide who should represent them in the race against the Democrat incumbent Rush Holt? “For the first time in decades, New Jersey has the opportunity to elect a pro-life U.S. Senator who will lead the fight against the abortion industry’s exploitation of women,” said Marie Tasy on behalf of the NJRTL PAC. Sabrin, she said, would “work to ensure every child’s right to live and be born.” Sabrin said that Roe v. Wade was an act of raw judicial power, and he supports overturning the abominable decision. “The next U.S. Senator will help nominate and approve various federal judges picked by the next one or two presidents,” said Sabrin. “I am committed to only supporting judges who will uphold the Constitution and not use it to legislate as in the Roe v. Wade decision.” “With the debate about Fetal Harvesting of baby body parts hitting the news, it is important that New Jersey have a U.S. Senator who will fight for the unborn and cancel out [Senator] Bob Torricelli’s pro-abortion votes,” Sabrin added. “I intend to fight in the Senate for the principles of life and liberty and make the case for the values upon which our nation was founded.” Now, that’s what we expect to hear from a pro-life candidate. Do the Republican candidates in your state talk like that?
