Pro-Life Candidates Endorsed by RNC/Life PAC
Elected to Congress on November 5, 2002
Rick Renzi (AZ-1), Trent Franks (AZ-2), Bob Beauprez (CO-7), Marilyn Musgrave (CO-4), Max Burns (GA-12), Tom Feeney (FL-24), John Shimkus (IL-19), Henry Hyde (IL-6), Mike Pence (IN-6), Todd Tiahrt (KS-4), Chris Smith (NJ-4), Scott Garrett (NJ-5), Mark Kennedy (MN-6), Steve Pearce (NM-2), Steve King (IA-5), and Randy Forbes (VA-4).

These newly elected Members of Congress received our endorsement and financial support because of their answers to the RNC/Life Candidate Questionnaire, which asks the questions necessary to separate the real pro-life candidates from those who would simply regulate or restrict the practice of abortion. In addition, we consult with pro-life activists in their congressional districts regarding their campaigns.

Consistent with RNC/Life criteria, these representatives-elect do not discriminate against babies conceived through rape or incest, or who have a handicap or a genetic defect. They fully support the entire pro-life plank in the Republican National Platform, which endorses a human life amendment to the Constitution and extension of Fourteenth Amendment protection to unborn children, and opposes the use of public revenues for abortions or organizations that advocate it. The platform also calls for the appointment of judges who support the sanctity of human life. These candidates have affirmed their belief that the pro-life plank should be re-adopted at every quadrennial Republican National Convention, and they condemn the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade and have pledged to work to overturn it. They oppose assisted suicide and euthanasia.

We wish to express our gratitude to those who contributed to the RNC/Life Political Action Committee so that we could assist in helping solid pro-lifers win their elections. Because of their unequivocal commitment to the legal protection of human life from conception until natural death, we expect everyone on this list to be not just a pro-life vote, but a leader who will advocate strongly for public policies and laws that will protect the little ones who canít speak for themselves.

You can access the RNC/Life Candidate Questionnaire by visiting our web site at: http://www.rnclife.org. Our Political Action Committee (PAC) Report can be viewed there as well. In addition to the Members of Congress listed above, other new Representatives and incumbents are listed along with their responses to our questionnaire. By reviewing the PAC Report you can get an idea of how they can be expected to vote once the new Congress convenes in January 2003.

Of the 20 congressional candidates endorsed by RNC/Life PAC, 16 are winners and 10 are brand new Members.

In contrast, NARAL reportedly spent $10 million for pro-abortion candidates and lost 10 of their 11 targeted seats. The pro-abortion PAC Emilyís List, which contributes exclusively to Democrats who are pro-abortion and female, raised and spent nearly $21 million, yet lost 16 of the 21 seats they targeted. (Including two Senate seats, MO and NH, which would have made the difference between Democrat and Republican control of the Senate.)

Congratulations and best wishes to the new pro-life congressional champions! May God bless your efforts to secure the right to life for all Americans, born and unborn.
