Special Legislative Alert
Please Act on This Today!
The Unborn Victims of Violence Act (H.R. 1997) is expected to be voted on in the U.S. Senate, possibly the week of March 22nd.
The bill recognizes an unborn child as a victim, separate from his mother, when he is killed during the perpetration of a violent federal crime against his mother. Dubbed the "Laci and Conner Law," it would right a grave wrong that currently exists in our judicial system.
In order to avoid a court challenge, the bill excludes any action of the mother herself, including abortion. However, its value rests in the fact that it establishes the unborn child as an individual human being under the law.
Please call both of your Senators today to register your views on this crucial pro-life bill.
Under the deal struck between Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Minority Leader Tom Daschle, two amendments will be offered prior to consideration of the bill.
Both of these amendments must be defeated:
PLEASE ASK YOUR SENATORS TO VOTE "NO" ON THE TWO AMENDMENTS AND "YES" ON FINAL PASSAGE OF THE BILL AFTER THE AMENDMENTS HAVE BEEN DEFEATED.
Once passed, The Unborn Victims of Violence Act will go to the desk of President Bush for his signature.
