SPECIAL ALERT – ACTION NEEDED TODAY!
RNC Leaders to Rain on Bush’s Inaugural Parade

Ken Mehlman, incoming chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has asked a pro-abortion activist, Joann Davidson of Ohio, to be RNC co-chairman, according to The New York Times, 1/14/05. Davidson has served on the advisory board of Republicans for Choice since its inception in 1990. Republicans for Choice was formed to remove the pro-life plank from the Republican Platform and to secure legal abortion by electing pro-abortion candidates to public office.

The Times story quotes Republicans for Choice web site where the following message congratulating Davidson was posted: “We look forward to working with her to help make sure the concerns of pro-choice and moderate Republicans are heard within the Republican National Committee headquarters.”

The RNC vote comes on the heels of yesterday’s presidential proclamation naming Sunday, January 16, 2005 as Sanctity of Human Life Day, 2005, a document stating the Bush Adminstration’s commitment “to building a lasting culture of life and a more compassionate society,” among other pro-life pronouncements and claims. Joann Davidson is not about building a culture of life, and evidently neither is Ken Mehlman!

The mid-winter meeting at of the RNC occurs this week. Members of the Committee (a national committeeman, committeewoman and Party Chairman from each state and the territories) will vote on both of these positions on Wednesday, January 19, 2005.

The January 16th edition of the Washington Post reported that President Bush will not lobby on behalf of a Federal Marriage Amendment unless the Defense of Marriage Act is actually struck down by the courts. What is going on???

Family Research Council president, Tony Perkins, said in a statement responding to the story, “The President has a mandate to protect marriage, therefore he, not members of the Senate, must lead the effort to protect the institution of marriage.” “For our nation’s leaders to be advocating that we wait for the Defense of Marriage Act to be struck down by the courts before they act to protect marriage is like a fire chief telling a local hotel to wait until their is a fire to install a sprinkler system. Leadership is needed now to protect the institution of marriage and our children and their future.”

This alert has information about what YOU can do TODAY to influence the outcome of the RNC election. Surely there are pro-life, pro-family Republicans who can assume the leadership of the Party instead of those who intend to turn their backs on the vast majority Americans who voted for President Bush believing that he would “walk the walk” as well as “talk the talk.”
