EDITOR'S NOTE: We have been working very hard getting ready for the Republican National Convention Platform week and the Convention afterward. RNC for Life Chairman Phyllis Schlafly is an Alternate Delegate from Missouri and I am a Texas Delegate this year. We will be in Minneapolis-St. Paul for two weeks representing pro-life and pro-family interests. This is the last edition of FaxNotes you will receive until the second week in September.
During the week preceding the Convention, the Platform Committee will meet to craft the 2008 Republican National Platform which will be ratified by the full Convention on September 1. We will be there once again to fulfill the mission we originally undertook in 1990; that is to ensure that efforts by the abortion lobby and its friends in the Republican Party to undermine the pro-life plank do not succeed. We would appreciate your prayers as we pursue our goals.

The proposal says it could cut off federal aid to individuals or entities that discriminate against people who object to abortion on the basis of "religious beliefs or moral convictions," according to The New York Times, (7/15/08). The proposal defines abortion as follows: "any of the various procedures including the prescription, dispensing and administration of any drug or the performance of any procedure or any other action that results in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation."
"Harvesting these embryonic stem cells involves the deliberate killing of innocent human beings, a gravely immoral act," the statement says. "Direct attacks on innocent human life are always gravely wrong. Yet some researchers, ethicists, and policy makers claim that we may directly kill innocent embryonic human beings as if they were mere objects of research and even that we should make taxpayers complicit in killing through use of public funds." "Thus, while human life is threatened in many ways in our society, the destruction of human embryos for stem cell research confronts us with the issue of respect for life in a stark new way." "As believers who recognize each human life as the gift of an infinitely loving god, we insist that every human being, however small or seemingly insignificant, matters to God," the Bishops said.
