THE "MORNING AFTER" PILL
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration acted on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 to overturn a Bush administration regulation prohibiting the over-the-counter sale of the contraceptive/abortifacient drug, Plan B (the "morning after" pill), to minors. Because of this action by the Obama administration, 17-year-olds can obtain the drug without a prescription. Plan B and RU-486 are not related and act in different ways. RU-486 is designed to cause an abortion. Plan B, as described by the manufacturer and by Planned Parenthood, "contains a high dose of birth-control drugs and works by preventing ovulation, fertilization, or the implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus." Both of these drugs are morally unacceptable. Unfortunately, pro-life attempts to stop the government from promoting them have been a failure. Now, Obama's people are pushing the envelope even farther, making them available to minors. We may see an expansion of their use to even younger teens in the future. The media relentlessly and, we think deliberately, refer to the embryonic human being as a "fertilized egg" when in fact, there is no such thing. Once fertilization/conception occurs, a new and unique individual human being is in existence. To prevent that little one from implanting in his mother's uterus where he will obtain nourishment and grow to the moment of birth is to cause an early abortion. That is what Plan B does. We have written extensively on this subject over the years, so we thought it would be helpful to refer you to the December 15, 2007 edition of FaxNotes entitled "There is No Such Thing as a Fertilized Egg," and the February 2003 edition of the RNC for Life Report in which we reprinted a column, "Untangling the Ribbons of Life" by the eminent French professor of Fundamental Genetics in the Faculty of Medicine in Paris who discovered the gene that causes Down Syndrome, the late Dr. Jerome Lejeune. Please use this information as a basis for informing your Member of Congress and U.S. Senators and for letters to the editor and opinion editorials for your local newspaper. This is doubly important in light of efforts on the part of the Obama administration to deny conscience protection to pharmacists and other medical personnel who refuse to dispense these killer drugs.
Never forget that YOU were once an embryo.
