What the Pro-Life Plank Is All About

Little Samuel Armas, 21 weeks after conception, grasps the finger of the surgeon who performed the successful operation to correct a condition known as spina bifida. Samuel, now 6 months old is developing normally, and hitting his monthly milestones. (USA Today, 5/2/00)
This picture is about life and love and trust. It is about the God-given miracle of life at its earliest stages and our responsibility to do whatever we can to protect and nourish every baby from conception.

It is about love - the unconditional love of a mother who risked her own life and health to give her baby a chance at a normal life. It is about trust, symbolized by the baby's hand grasping the finger of the doctor whose skill and precision rescued him from a serious birth defect.

The Republican Party Platform affirms the right to life of every baby, from conception. Please contact the Delegates to the National Convention from your state and urge them to vote for readoption of the 1996 Pro-Life Plank . Just as important, urge them to oppose any attempt to place a pro-abortion-choice vice presidential nominee on the Republican ticket. Call your state Republican Party headquarters and ask for the list of Delegates.

Make those calls. Help us move toward the day when every unborn baby will be protected.

In the Birthplace of Our Nation
RNC/Life Plans Convention Bash
Since 1992, RNC/Life has successfully led the effort to protect and defend the pro-life plank in the Republican National Platform against attacks by the abortion industry and their friends in the Republican Party. This year, we will once again sponsor a party for pro-life Delegates, Alternates and friends. There will be great food, music and fun in the historic Union League Club of Philadelphia, in the shadow of Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed 224 years ago. In celebration of the fact that our government was established on the founding principle that the right to life comes from God and that government exists to secure that right, we will honor three pro-life patriots. Your invitation is on page three of this report. The response form is on page four. We welcome your participation and look forward to seeing you there. [Unfortunately, we are unable to assist you in securing accommodations.]

Media Pre-Clearance Necessary
Members of the media who wish to cover the RNC/Life party in Philadelphia must be pre-cleared for admittance. Space is extremely limited. If you wish to receive a pre-clearance form, please fax your request to our press secretary, Sheila Moloney, at: 972-387-3830, or e-mail it to: [email protected].

The Running Mate
Speculation continues that the Bush campaign may be prepared to "give us" the pro-life platform plank, but choose a pro-abortion-choice running mate. We find it hard to give credence to the idea, because it makes no political sense to alienate a major portion of the Republican base, especially when the November election is expected to be so close.

Nevertheless, rumors are beginning to surface at the grassroots level of a move to initiate "Repub-licans for Buchanan" should the Republican ticket be unacceptable to pro-life voters.

Obviously, those who are urging Bush to choose pro-abortion Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge, or someone with similar views, are more interested in promoting the agenda of the abortion lobby than they are with helping George W. Bush defeat Al Gore.

Who Makes Up the Platform Committee?
The rules of the Republican National Convention provide that each state delegation will elect two representatives, one man and one woman, to serve on the Committee on Resolutions (Platform Commit-tee) and on the other Convention committees (Rules, Permanent Organization, and Credentials). One representative is selected from American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands. Call your state Republican Party and find out who will represent you on the Platform Committee. Phone them and encourage them to vote for the pro-life plank as it appears in the 1996 Platform and to support a pro-life running mate for George W. Bush.

From Wednesday, July 26, through Thursday, August 3, Phyllis Schlafly, RNC/Life national chairman and RNC/Life director, Colleen Parro, will be at our Philadelphia headquarters. Call 618/462-5415 for information on how to contact us.

Republican Pro-Choice Coalition Honors Abortionist
In a demonstration of just how outside the mainstream of America they are, the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition held a fundraiser on Tuesday, May 30th at New York's St. Regis Hotel where they honored notorious partial-birth abortionist Dr. Leroy Carhart, who is currently fighting Nebraska's ban on the partial birth abortion technique. The following quotes from Dr. Carhart should confirm for any decent person the decision by George W. Bush not to give in to the demands of pro-abortion Republicans concerning the Platform:

Dr. Carhart's court testimony on fetal brain harvesting as reported in the New York Post (6-1-00): "I know that the fetus is alive during the process most of the time because I can see the heartbeat on the ultrasound."

"We remove the feet and continue with traction on the feet until the abdomen and the thorax come through the cavity." "You have to bring the shoulders down, but you can get enough of them outside, you can do this with your finger outside of the uterus, and then at that point . . . the base of the fetal skull is usually in the cervical canal." ". . . and that's where you would rupture the fetal skull to some extent and aspirate the contents out."

"My intent in every abortion I have ever done is to kill the fetus and terminate the pregnancy."
